
Training in Traditional Veterinary Medicine Held in Sathyamangalam
A training session focused on traditional veterinary medicine was jointly organized by the Tamil Nadu Farmers Protection Association and the Tamil Nadu Natural Farmers Association in Sathyamangalam on April 26, 2025.
40 students from various Agricultural Research Centre, 35 livestock breeders, and other interested individuals participated and gained knowledge.
Professor Dr. Puniyamoorthy, a dedicated advocate for the widespread adoption of traditional veterinary practices across states and countries, graced the training as a special guest. His presentation covered various crucial topics, including methods to prevent mastitis, approaches to address amenorrhea, Techniques to induce ovulation annually, and natural remedies for deworming and preventing diarrhea using readily available ingredients like radish, fenugreek, Veldt Grape, and betel nut. He also elucidated simple and affordable disease control methods utilizing common kitchen ingredients, making the information highly accessible to livestock farmers.
Mr. Sundararaman, a pioneer in organic farming from Sathyamangalam, presided over the event. Also present was Mr. Marutham Kumar from the Vaanagam organization.
During the session, Mr. S. Bharathidasan, Secretary of Arulagam, drew attention to the critical situation of vultures, highlighting the detrimental impact of painkillers administered to livestock. He pointed out that vultures in Tamil Nadu are now largely confined to the Sathyamangalam and Mudumalai regions, emphasizing the vital role of local livestock farmers in their conservation. He advocated for the adoption of Professor Puniyamoorthy's traditional medicine methods as a safe alternative to these harmful painkillers. Mr. Bharathidasan urged attendees to completely abstain from using banned veterinary drugs and to avoid harmful substances, promoting the use of traditional medicine alongside safer alternatives like Meloxicam and Tolfenamic Acid. He further stated Arulagam's strong commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of these NSAIDs in the region. The event was moderated by Mr. Inthinai Velusamy, Mr. Peru. Natarajan, Mr. Jyothi Arunachalam, and Mr. Mohan.
