Best Social Service Award for Arulagam's Sand Dune Conservation and Greening Initiatives | March 2026
Arulagam organisation has been carrying out sand dune conservation work on Rameswaram Island over the past two years, in collaboration with local communities and with the support of UNDP-GEF-SGP-TERI.
As part of this project, continuous awareness programmes are being conducted for the public, students, and tourists across Rameswaram Island.
In addition, a Neithal nursery has been established, where native trees, shrubs, and climbers are cultivated. These plants are being systematically planted and maintained to protect more than fifty hectares of sand dunes.
In recognition of these efforts, Annai Scholastica Arts and Science College for Women, located on Rameswaram Island, conferred the “Best Social Service” award on the Arulagam organisation on 28 March 2026, during the college’s fourth anniversary celebration.

The award was presented by Mother General Amutha Theos. The event was presided over by the College Secretary, Sister Ruby, and held in the presence of the College Principal, Dr. Sr. S. Anne Perpet Sophy, as well as the Distance Education Coordinator of Alagappa University.
The award was received by Project Coordinator Mr Muhammad Shahid, along with Neithal Nursery staff members Mrs Murugarani, Mrs Jayalakshmi, Mrs Rajeswari, Mrs Seetha, and Mrs Maheswari.
This award was presented in appreciation of the social and environmental conservation work undertaken by Arulagam.
Arulagam expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the management of Annai Scholastica Women’s College for recognising this initiative and honouring the organisation with this award.
