The new office of Arulagam, located at the Ornithologist Rathnam Campus, was inaugurated on October 1 by the esteemed Pulavar Pa. Na. Kalimuthu, who also delivered an address conveying his felicitations. Mrs. Maragatham Rathnam graced the occasion.

Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and the protection of native plants, Ms. Sakthi Saravanan planted an Ormocarpum cochinchinense sapling, locally known as ‘Elumbotti’, while Mr. Sriranjan Mallikarjunan planted a Caralluma fimbriata sapling, locally known as ‘Ezhuga’ or ‘Kalli Mulaiya’.

Speaking at the event, Arulagam Secretary Mr. S. Bharathidasan said:

“To commemorate the 95th birthday of ornithologist Mr. Rathnam, 95 plants that attract birds and butterflies will be cultivated. In celebration of Arulagam’s 25th anniversary, we will also undertake efforts to revive 25 rare plant species of Tamil Nadu that are currently at risk of extinction.”

Following this, Arulagam President Mr. Aranya Saravanan said:

“In the future, Arulagam will function as a primary centre for educating students and the general public about ecology.”

Earlier, Mr. Ko. Rammohan, of Arulagam, welcomed and honoured Pulavar Pa. Na. Kalimuthu by presenting him with a ceremonial shawl. Mrs. Shoba honoured Mrs. Maragatham Rathnam.

The organisation also expressed its appreciation to Mr. Arjunan, who designed the building, and to Mr. Srinivasan and his team, who worked on its construction. Arulagam also extended its thanks to Mrs. Madhavi Mahalingam, daughter of Pulavar Pa. Na. Kalimuthu.

The event was attended by a large gathering of Arulagam staff, members, and nature enthusiasts, including those actively involved in fieldwork across various regions, who came together to mark the occasion.
